Hazelwood's Sunshine and Buttercups

Buttercup was born at Hazelwood kennels along with her siblings in the Foodies litter. She was the first born and while I did mutter that if the first puppy born was an apricot female, I was keeping her, that wasn't the only reason for that.

But why did I say that? Well, Daisy, the great grandmother of Buttercup, passed away on December 19th, 2020 and Buttercup was the first puppy born at 1:08am on December 19th, 2025 with a small heart of white on her chest. A large, beautiful apricot female that one of my good friends mentioned, maybe one of these puppies is Daisy coming back to you. To say that I ugly cried the moment she was born, and throughout that day as we welcomed a beautiful generation of puppies, is an under statement.

However, Buttercup, originally known as Papaya in the litter theme, showed from a very early age that she was the show stopping puppy. We had her assessed by a number of long time Mastiff breeders and handlers and all of them felt she was the number one puppy in the litter in regards to conformation. And really, after the moment she was born, with her little personality shining through, there was no way she was leaving.

And that is just it. Buttercup is sunshine, like her name, and makes everyone smile with her sweetness, playful antics, gentle (and sometimes not so gentle) touches of her paw to get your attention, to the way that even at 4 months old and 70lbs in weight, she still feels she can fit in everyone's lap...and forces it in her own way. She is a vocal girl who will grumble at you when she needs to and she is always up to being with us at all moments if she can.

We are excited to see where this little ray of sunshine takes us and I know that she will shine in the show ring and performance titling.

In fact, she has already shown that she is the complete package with beauty and brains, having earned her Novice Trick Dog title at 11 weeks old! Tied as the youngest Mastiff in Canada to earn it with her brother. And she earned her Novice Trick Dog Masters title at 15 weeks of age. She has definitely been busy and will continue with trick titling as well as other performance titles as she grows up.
